TOOTING

Tooting has come a long way since we opened Next Step Estates in 2008. Voted “Top 10 Places to Visit” by Lonely Planet in 2017, Tooting has grown into a fashionable foodie destination. Tooting has always been famous for the most authentic and delicious South Asian cuisine but this has now been joined by an eclectic mix of boutique cafés, restaurants and bars. This popularity has driven property prices up significantly making it an exciting opportunity to invest, or find somewhere vibrant and buzzy to live, before it’s too late. Let’s take a closer look.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Tooting has excellent transport connections. Tooting Bec and Tooting Broadway stations are both on the Northern Line with a 20 minute trip to Waterloo. Thameslink also runs through Tooting and many bus routes take passengers to convenient locations. What’s more Tooting Broadway has been considered as a stop on Crossrail 2 with a direct connection to Clapham Junction and Victoria.

EATING AND DRINKING

Tooting has an exciting and energetic scene when it comes to eating and drinking. We cannot talk about Tooting cuisine without first mentioning Tooting Market. This bustling hotch potch of world foods and artisanal eateries has certainly increased Tooting’s popularity in recent times. It is also a great place to pick up vintage clothing, jewellery, furniture and art. Start your day here at Brickwood Café or Get Juiced, lunch at Grubs and finish off at Graveney Gin or Unwined. Don’t forget to discover one of Tooting’s countless South Asian family run restaurants. Vijaya Krishna, Lahore Karahi and Spice Village have been named as favourites of local resident Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, as well as antipodean café Mud, the Britannia Fish Bar or the Kitchen Table. Every year Tooting hosts “Foodival” – a festival celebrating locally grown and sourced food and drink. Tooting is also happening for fun places to grab a drink with friends – Tooting Tram & Social, The Wheatsheaf, The Little Bar and Brick & Liquor to name a few.

ENTERTAINMENT AND LEISURE

The Tooting Lido is the largest outdoor pool in the UK and well worth a visit. Tooting also has plenty of green space on Tooting Common and there is a 9-hole golf course and driving range open to the public seven days a week. Tooting Leisure Centre also has a swimming pool, gym and indoor sports hall. For the more culturally minded the Tooting Arts Club is more than just a local theatre, having put on such an acclaimed version of Sweeney Todd in Harrington’s Pie & Mash Shop, the production transferred to New York City to rave reviews.

Tooting is also home to the London Sewing Machine Museum which is fitting, given that Tooting is a popular stop for dressmakers wanting to buy beautiful fabrics from locally run outlets.
