MITCHAM

Bridging inner and outer London is this family friendly hub of history. With origins dating before the Domesday Book, Mitcham is also home to some fine examples of Regency and early Victorian architecture. It can also make claim to the country’s oldest cricket ground with games still being played on the village green. Discover more right here.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Mitcham is served by two train stations, Mitcham Eastfields (with direct trains to central London) and Mitcham Junction (with trains to Victoria in 20 minutes). There is also a 4-stop tram to Merton, Croydon and Sutton and plenty of bus routes to choose from.

EATING AND DRINKING

Mitcham has a good choice of independent and family friendly chains to dine at. Top rated restaurants include Rock Star Sushi Bar, Wandle Pirates, Istanbul Meze Mangal and Coreleone Italian. For more of a pub feel try Mitcham Grill House, The Gorringe Park or The William Morris. Be sure to check out Merton Abbey Mills which is a converted textile factory from the 1700s that now has an array of restaurants, cafes, bars and events including jazz nights.

ENTERTAINMENT AND LEISURE

Mitcham Common is an extraordinary expanse of 460 acres of natural beauty. Funfairs and firework displays are regularly held here. Its woodlands are home to a conservation area and the cricket green is at the heart of this historically important suburb. Mitcham was surrounded by lavender fields and lavender still features on Merton Council’s coat of arms. Every June the Mitcham Carnival is held on Commonside West with entertainment on a main stage, sporting events for kids and over 120 stalls. Tamworth Farm and Recreation Ground is a great day out for families with five tennis courts, children’s centre, paddling pool and playground. For some culture, Attic Theatre Company residing in the Mitcham Library, puts on award-winning productions.
